home-grown Instruments and MOTU have each posted compatibility update pages in the service of Mac OS X Leopard. There’s not a whole heaps of information yet (particularly frame MOTU), but now’s the time to bookmark those pages!
Be reliable to look for as other cooperative compatibility tidings — much of it positive at this aspect.
NI’s latest versions of Kore, Traktor, Guitar Rig, and Kontakt are all agreeable to go. But other software has some issues related to ordination and dialog box operation. While it’s not reported on this announce, we’ve also heard one actually with a hardware trouble. You should get a load of patches over the coming weeks, with major updates in November and December.
Despite the title, in fact, you authority not want to unleash anything just yet. MOTU says testing is ongoing and hints updates benefit of matriel and software may be likely. MOTU’s virtual appliance line is ready, granting, and there are no significant issues reported yet. Best bet: bookmark that page and keep observe. That’s what we’ll be doing.
Tiger in your tank? I’ll suggest it now: while the issues are minor so far, I don’t recommend upgrading to Leopard on a decisive faction. in the interest of folks with more than ditty Mac, innumerable are having relatively smooth experiences, so on a second machine it could estimate message. I’m with a bun in the oven most of the rest of us transfer just wait a month or two; at least on the Mac updates are inveterately pretty hurried in coming and the OS itself looks solid.
Oh, yeah, and ditty other important contrivance: this is the before Mac OS X update that really doesn’t benefit music users, at least not minus of the box. (There are some driver changes, but I don’t notion of there are till devices that take advantage of them.) It’s truly good news, in that Core Audio and Core MIDI are mature at this aspect — you don’t want to regularly update the music and audio plumbing. But that means Tiger discretion be justified fine exchange for some time.
More Java bad intelligence: While I know this interests a smaller audience, there’s been subdue more disappointments on the Mac Java front.

The challenge is to take a lo-tech music artificial, toiler it and document it, and upload the results all in a specific broad daylight! Tell you what - I won’t penalize you for buying your tinker with flirt with prematurely or using one you already have. not till hell freezes over circuit-peculiar anything in the past? Don’t know anything encircling electronics? Great! I’m from head to toe an tiro myself, but I conscious reasonably to support you get bending - and I’ve got the tools and parts you need. Directions on the .
If any other municipalities lack to organize be like events, equal garden ones, let me know and I’ll update here. But events aren’t strictly needed, nor is metrical more than undivided actually: you are your own event. (That’s what I keep telling myself, for inescapable.) We’ll all be sending positive bendy vibes suitable the next few days.
Got photos? Upload to Flickr under the tag . (Don’t taking to add them to the , too.) Evil Paul is already up there with some items he scored into a bare US . And that’s the reason: not just making something for twopence, but indeed salvaging something sufficiently chintzy to others and making it taste / something you’d want to keep.

Our sources tell us some of you have extend out to buy Mac OS X Leopard on its debut evening. If so, do be indubitable to publish us what’s working or what’s breaking.
Our initial reports have told us just about all software should be compatible, including plug-ins. Hardware should make too, generally, supposing we’ve gotten a several of anonymous hardware producer reports that introduce you may visualize updated drivers. The good news is, people I differentiate running Max/MSP/Jitter haven’t had any issues at all; large Max has compatibility problems with compute copy protection drivers, as it did initially with Vista, until an update is handy (usually within a few weeks). This means iLok copy protection should work, too. But, of course, I’ll believe it when I hear it, and you’re out in the field.
One other question: is upgrading frying any of the authorizations in behalf of your copy-protected music software? If so, which stuff?
And no, I’m not upgrading after all. The captivating is all on the visual side, with pith enlivenment and the new Quartz Composer, so I surmise I’ll give in soon.

Digidesign has gradually helped Pro Tools users unchain themselves from the bulky interfaces the software positively required. (Anyone remember the days of hooking up an unconditional growth card chassis to a laptop, retire from in the day? Yipes!) But until recently, you still needed an Mbox to carry along. The Mbox2 Micro has a novel twist: it packs an audio interface into an anodized aluminum USB description. You circumvent just one audio output: an 1/8″ stereo output jack, upgrading your laptop’s headphone entirely jack to 24-part, 48KHz monitoring. But that also means the Micro is all you need to secure b abscond with to run Pro Tools. (In other words, it’s a dongle with a headphone jack.)
The “Mbox dilemma” continues: through despite restored users, the Micro is a great take into account. You step down off Pro Tools LE, 45 plug-ins (Bomb mill + DigiRack), and Xpand playback and coalescence, for US$279. Or, anyway, it’s a good trade if you’re not planning to record … this is an output-exclusive interface, with no input. (It’s effectively worth considering Pro Tools M-Powered for use with M-Audio interfaces or the take forty winks of the MBox in a row because of mobile recording.) But in the interest existing users — the ones who, according to the press release, are “seeking a greater degree of portability when using Pro Tools on the road” — you’ve got to put in $279 for what amounts to an extra dongle. Bummer. So, I’ll declare again: Digidesign, why not cede your existing LE (or Pro Tools HD users) an option to buy this thing instead of $49 or something? (I’m guessing the fulfil to “why not” is because it’d consent to people to easily Pro Tools LE, but that’s contemporary to be small comfort to users who bear invested in Digidesign’s attitude.) By comparison, Apple’s practicality Pro is $500 and doesn’t make any USB dongle at all; their entry-level $200 reasonableness Express includes more remote more built-in jam-ins. There are similar deals from Cakewalk’s SONAR on Windows, which also requires only just serial numbers, not specialized hardware. Both of these want piece with your existing headphone out jack or other mobile interfaces.
At the having said that regulate, I ponder the idea of a USB key that gives you higher-quality monitoring is a terrific fancy, and I’d love to see ASIO/nucleus Audio-compatible alternatives. And on the Digidesign front, if you’re looking for an affordable mobile Pro Tools comrade, the Micro looks promising, fitted those who don’t yet own LE.
